Untergang der Bilderwelt / Downfall of the imagery
Ein polemisches Vademecum
A “polemic vademecum” is what Werner Luft calls his temperamental expression to the recent “iconoclastic controversy” at that time, in which prominent art historians played an inglorious role, because they – unrefined – tried to put the opponent out of action. There are no rudenesses in this book, but formulations which discomfort “the realist” equally as “the abstract”. A few high-polished discs get imposed, against every tradition. A book which doesn’t try to please, but brings “frische Luft” / fresh air into the room.
